    ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡
a lovely pair of antique bas relief bisque porcelain wall plaques
made in Germany circa 1890s to mid 1910s
Each oval plaque measures approximately 4" x 5" with a 1/4" to 1/2" depth. One shows a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the other is of a Dachsund dog, both with their litter of little pups.
They were hand-painted in black, green, and caramel brown using the airbrush technique which was relatively new at the time these were made, having been invented in 1879 but not widely used until years later when the airbrush device was successfully mass-produced. Back then, most of the air compressors used for the device were manually operated with a rocking foot pedal, similar to the old-timey sewing machines. This didn't offer as much precision as later motorized versions but did give the earlier pieces like these a soft & hazy and somewhat dreamy look that I find utterly charming and sweet ♡
Both show little signs of wear commensurate with age including some skip marks in the paint, rubwear/scratching on the oval border, and worn paint on the hindquarters and ears on two of the Dachsund dogs. The pictures are the best description, so please click on them for a closer look, and if you have any questions, I'm always happy to help ♡
Each plaque has an impressed "Germany" mark on the back and holes for hanging at the top. Sold together, they ship via USPS fully insured and will be wrapped with care and mailed within one business day ♡
