Custom Vintage Collins Hatchet Axe
This auction is for a custom, vintage Collins hatchet axe, brought to your consideration by Stunner Blades Customs, San Francisco, California.
We got possession of this Collins hatchet head and said, “Ya know what? We’re going to trick this puppy out”. So we at SBC did just that.
First we safely removed any nasty rust particles from everywhere on this axe head. Second, we hand polished this lil beast to a mirror shine. Go ahead, check yourself out in it. As you can see, “Mo” (SBC’s mascot) is already ahead of the game in the photos. We coated the internal eye with genuine Axe Wax for future rust prevention.
We moved on to the custom crafted haft, which was made specifically for this hatchet head. We used genuine, solid White Ash with a super straight grain. We sanded it down to P1000 and hit it with the Japanese wood preserving method of shou sugi ban. It took on that savage Black and Tan tiger striped look right after. A dunk in the boiled linseed oil tank took that grain to another degree. I mean look at it c’mon….DAM boii!!!
The head was perfectly fit to the haft and yes, we did something else different. We made a custom wedge out of black pearl Kirinite and slammed that thing straight in the kerf, along with some Titebond Ultimate. You know we polished the top right after as well.
The whole hatchet axe was left to chill, then given a protective coating of genuine Axe Wax, made in Ashland, Oregon.
This vintage Collins head on this custom haft is a dime piece for sure. Get it while it’s hot!
Overall length from top of eye to bottom of haft is 14 inches. Length of axe head is 5 inches with a 3 1/4 inch blade. Overall weight of this piece is 1 lb 10.4 oz.
