    Description

Previously Classified as a Bank Note, this piece is actually a 'Bill of Credit' (Tín Phiếu) issued by the Viet Minh in North Vietnam in 1950 - 1951 - These notes were used only in rural areas. They had no value in any large town or major city environment where French Currency was used.
They were issued in areas / zones Liberated from French Control. The value of the Credit Note is 1,000 Dong.
Việt Nam Dân Chủ Cộng Hòa - Democratic Republic of Vietnam
Chủ Tịch Hồ Chí Minh - President Ho Chi Minh
Tín Phiếu Một Nghìn Đồng - One Thousand Dong Bill of Credit
Showing Soldier and Worked to the Rear, the image of President Ho Chi Minh to the front. These notes issued in both 1950 and 1951 (France was to rule North Vietnam until the Fall at Dien Bien Phu in May of 1954).
These notes were used in Liberated Zones. In addition, these notes were forced on people living in rural areas under French Control for the Acquisition of Good from Homes, Farms and Trading post by the Army of Ho Chi Minh. These notes used in payment, regardless of if you liked it or not.
For the French to find a supply of these in a Village indicated to them that the Village were supporters (and suppliers) of the Communist Regime, or worse that the Village was a communist stronghold.
This would often result in the total destruction of the Village and acquisition by the French of Livestock and other items of value not only to the Villagers but also to the Viet Minh.
As such, these were seldom kept and are therefore extremely rare.
    Exceptionally Rare piece.
