I try to imagine the muse that Mattel’s Barbie designers draw upon to create their dolls, and in the case of English Barbie, it seems that the 1890’s shaped the vision for this doll’s outfit. I will draw from the back of the box for a description. “The outfit I’m wearing is a sidesaddle riding habit, the height of fashion among English horsewomen in the 1890’s. My riding habit is adorned with an ascot tie and jeweled pin, and topped by an English bowler (derby hat). It’s just the look for a jaunty steeplechase (horse race).” Not mentioned are her “jaunty” purse, shoes (which you can’t see), or her earrings and ring. The doll wearing this ensemble isn’t Keira Knightly or Kate Winslet, but she is lovely nonetheless. This doll has never watched the “telly,” eaten “crisps,” “rang up mum,” or enjoyed “a spot of tea.” You can change that if you decide to make her a RFB doll instead of a NRFB doll. If you feel especially radical, you can grab the recommended safety scissors and harvest the passport, guide book, tour tickets and British currency printed on one side of the box. If not, enjoy a box with just a couple of dings to the edges of the cello window and a slightly crushed-in area where the top of the cello meets the cardboard. The .98 price sticker is still on the front of the box (which should never happen, but clearly it did).
Made in China. For ages 3 and up. From a non-smoking, Barbie-loving home.
Please note that I do not ship outside of the continental United States, but international buyers can purchase via Ebay’s Global Shipping Program. Rest assured that your doll has been well cared for over the years, and that it will be packed with the utmost of care as it heads off to its new home.
