    Hello!
This auction is for a vintage informational pamphlet from 1924 issued to the Loyal Legion of Loggers and Lumbermen. Now as a born Washingtonian I am ashamed to admit I had no idea about this entire bit of history until I started researching what this item was about. In a nutshell, (and I am paraphrasing with my newfound limited knowledge) in WWI production of northwest spruce to build airplanes had fallen to where the President sent a representative here to investigate why. When he reported an organization called the IWW was stirring labor unrest and strikes, he received authorization to create the Loyal Legion of Loggers and Lumbermen. Now the early days of this seems to have been a little heavy handed where military force was used to institute Army like conditions at logging camps, oaths of loyalty and membership were required or you faced finding a new job. After the war, it became one of the first de facto unions and a tool for workers to communicate and bargain with owners. Whereby 8 hr workdays and things like insurance for workers were instituted. Lasted until 1938 when more aggressive unions gained ground with the majority of workers. This pamphlet was issued to new hires at sawmills and lumber camps, this question and answer booklet outlined how meeting were structured, how to raise an issue and basic mission statements of organization. Very good condition (see photos) Ships via USPS First Class envelope. Thanks for looking and please see my other auctions for more great items!
