Vintage/Antique GROVE TOOL WORKS New York City Hatchet/Hand AXE W/Original Handle
Very nice hatchet head with very very very minor chips and nicks on the cutting edge (see pic #11). The poll end has no mushrooming, but it does have some hammer marks on it (see pic #10). The makers mark is still fairly clear (see pic #2).
But there are some scratches, scrapes, dings and pitting on both sides of the axe head, that are to be expected from a used Antique/Vintage woodworking tool (see all pics).
Unfortunately the original handle has had some "CUSTOM" work done to it, maybe for better grip?? (see all pics). There's also some pieces of wood missing from the end of the handle (see pic #12). The good news is that the hatchet head is firmly mounted to the handle. The hatchet weighs in at 1 pound 10.6 oz. It's 13-3/4" long with handle. The head is 5-1/8" long, with a bit that's 3" wide.
